Project Overview
The industrial zone sits in Quanyun Road, Hunnan New District in Shenyang which used to be a urban village that had a weak road transport system and lacked supporting facilities. This project is a new model of urban development, which is based on industry, technology, culture and history to forge a close tie between mankind and nature. The property owner joins hands with the government to create an industrial zone that is led by enterprises for the mutual cooperation between China and Japan.

Project Brief
We are committed to developing a benign relationship between mankind and nature in urban areas. And we are eager to improve the relationship between citizens, the park and the city based on the urban and rural green space, the park-like ecological pattern and landscape. We hope to provide more quality sustainable scenes and improve living environment so as to form a new model of cities.
Two of the biggest ecological elements of the project were given full attention in the early stages - one is the 28,000 m2 urban green space and the other is the Baitabao River. So we hope to make people fall in love with the park and then the city. Thus the design aims at encouraging more people to get in touch with nature. The park not only provides basic services but also combines nature and culture to take full account of the longevity and sustainability of the space. The park is closely connected with businesses, which enriches social interaction and the diversity of activities.
Project Innovation/Need
Vertical design
This is the most important one, with the cut and fill balanced by the site's own earthwork, controlling the field experience and path experience through the topography. The highest point of the earthwork is up to 2.5m, thus creating the second major entrance into the park. The stepped plaza and staggered playing fields enrich the walking experience with the controlled undulation of the path.
Path design
The whole park has an 800m health walkway as the mainstream connecting all scenes of the park. It is close to the business stores and the wandering street, with an average path width of around 3.5m. Along the path there are a certain number of resting areas, with the material of the seats carefully chosen. And each seat can be a haven for sun shield, flowers and plants. The zigzag paths better has a richer visual expression of the ecological vegetation.
Plant design
The 800-metre path is accompanied by a wild flora, followed by different thematic small botanical gardens or purposefully formed gardens. We strive to find the unique beauty of varying seasons.
Design Challenge
Multiple discussions have been done on the functions of the park. After collecting data about the real using experience of a diversity of city parks, we’ve chose popular functions and activities. For example, we’ve established a 1,500m2 city park, a 1,500m2 commercial fountain plaza, a family cat theme park, two basketball courts, a football field and a 6,000m2 lawn. What’s more, the most eye-catching one is the 6,000m2 Japanese-style garden. We are dedicated to creating a space with natural beauty and interesting functions that can lure residents away from home, work and virtual world and help them establish a healthy lifestyle.
Sustainability
With a focus on the ecological aspect, the zone takes forming diverse flora as the core and minimize the construction process, thus creating a total of 28,000 m2 landscape. The beauty of nature has lasting power. During the construction, we have used as less steel and concrete as possible and deployed a simple combination of flowers, trees, water and stones to express most of the scenes. In doing so, we strive to creating a sought-after urban space where people can relish in nature.
