Project Overview

It's a beanie that is as safe as a helmet. The Anti Ordinary A1 is the most comfortable helmet you'll wear to date.

Organisation

Project Context

Introducing the world’s first soft, safe helmet, that couples the safety we all need with comfort and looks we all love.

Superb quality merino fabric underlayer provides superior breathability and insulation.
Certified stretch-fit helmet design (the first ever!), fits as you've never experienced.
Easily washable, just throw it in the machine with the rest of your clothes.
Earphone compatible, unlike many restrictive helmets (no special earbuds/pads needed).
Goggle compatible (but not gaper compatible--close that gap!).

Project Innovation

The A1 Helmet will exceed the American ATSM F2040 and European EN1077 standards for alpine helmets, so you stop worrying and start shredding!

Our proprietary system outperforms traditional helmet materials, such as EPS and EPP. What's the point if it's not safe?

Our mission from day one was to make a helmet that can exceed all standards. And it will.

In a recent test, our material in isolation at 28mm thick surpassed the requirements of the EN1077 flat anvil drop test by 12.9%.

We selected high-quality merino wool for the inner layer. It's like clouds for your head because your head deserves the best.

Our soft shell design promotes elasticity and conforms to your head perfectly. Fit and comfort go hand-in-hand. If a helmet doesn't fit, it's not going to be comfortable.

The helmet comes 3 in standard colors; Yellow (with pom pom), Red and Black.

Design Challenge

We're using non-Newtonian materials that have shear-thickening properties.

This means they're generally soft and rubbery but stiffen on impact. If you're into action sports gear, you've probably seen this type of material in back protectors, elbow guards and shin guards for pedal sports and motorcycling.

By itself, the material doesn't have a suitable impact profile for absorbing complex impacts, such as those subjected to the head. They're perfect for armor and deflecting rocks and branches, but not good at absorbing cranial impacts.

Commercial projects recognises that design is the means to create meaningful experiences for users, create value for people and drive profit for businesses.

The object category celebrates creative and innovative design for an object or product. Consideration is given according to the design context and need, design innovation and the application of human centred design principles.
