Project Overview
Most cram schools in Taiwan are often dull and suffocating. The cold, high-pressure learning environment and the spoon-feeding education make children lose interest in learning. In order to change the stereotype of a cram school, the interior features an abundance of natural wood to warm up the space. Instead of rigid desks and chairs, the elevated flooring allows children to sit freely. Tearing up the traditional rules of a cram school can work wonders. By breaking through the constraints, it is now a happy, stress-free learning institution.

Project Brief
Large floor-to-ceiling windows on the first and second floors bring in abundant natural light, making the room bright and airy. Meanwhile, parents can participate in children's learning journey while waiting outside. Inspired by the fairytale wooden roof, the front door is combined with greenery and warm yellow lights to gradually ease children's anxiety. The space feels open and airy without solid walls. Tons of wooden elements spread on the canopy, walls, and flooring to bring warmth. As though you're traveling in a warm forest, a sense of relaxation is filled in the air. The use of colorful, flowing curved shapes and bold lines that link vertical dimensions can weaken the rigidity of the volume and gives new life to the space.
Project Innovation/Need
Unlike traditional cram schools that are depressing and oppressive, the half-height wall defines the space and allows natural light to flow easily to every corner. Instead of standard desks, chairs, and lecture tables, raised flooring creates a more free and flexible space, allowing students to have fun in learning a language in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Instead of starting a boring lecture in front of the class, teachers can lean down to accompany the students to learn together, which invariably shorten the distance between teachers and students. Heart-warming companionship enhances children's desire and ability to learn. Not like any other traditional cram school, this is an educational institution that encourage interaction between teacher and students.
Design Challenge
Crystal-clear glass blocks build the executive counter, which not only diffuse a sense of luxury under the sunlight but also provide a moderate degree of privacy. The lively counter is connected with meeting area in grayscale colors. Along with the contrast between the virtual and real presented by the materials, conflict between the delicacy and thoroughness makes the counter a focal point in the space.
Sustainability
All building materials we use are organic green materials in order to protect the environment and live in harmony with nature. The space is free of formaldehyde and other toxic substances that are harmful to the body. We aim to create a friendly and safe learning environment. Furniture made of durable recycled materials can reduce both the use of raw materials and the generation of waste.
