Project Overview

The 2025 Yehliu Night Tours – Queen’s Head Illumination reimagines Taiwan’s iconic Yehliu Geopark as a dreamlike celebration of nature, art, and culture. Centred on the legendary Queen’s Head rock formation, the event features eight themed light zones—ranging from aurora-inspired dreamscapes to oceanic wonders—using precision lighting and projection mapping to reveal the intricate textures of the geological landscape. Live music and community co-creation further enhance this immersive nighttime journey.

The entire event is grounded in the three pillars of sustainability:
• Economically, it revitalises night-time tourism, stimulates local businesses, and increases income for residents.
• Environmentally, it employs energy-efficient LED lighting, avoids any structural impact on the rocks, and includes light and noise monitoring to minimise ecological disturbance.
• Culturally, it highlights the signature “Queen’s Costume Show,” integrates community co-creation and cultural heritage, and features a marketplace that showcases local identity and creativity

This event not only strengthens the emotional connection between visitors and the landscape, but also serves as a model of sustainable cultural reinterpretation—setting a new benchmark for Taiwan’s night-time tourism.

Project Brief

The 2025 Yehliu Night Tours – Queen’s Head Illumination transforms Taiwan’s iconic Yehliu Geopark into a night-only spectacle of light, nature, and culture. Featuring eight themed zones, the event blends geological wonders with artistic lighting, live performances, and interactive experiences to create an immersive nighttime journey.

Rooted in sustainability, the program stimulates the local night economy, increases resident income, utilises energy-efficient equipment to minimise environmental impact, and promotes community identity through local culture, co-creation, and themed markets. It not only showcases the harmony of nature and technology but also sets a new direction for sustainable night tourism in Taiwan.

Project Need

Yehliu Geopark is one of Taiwan’s most iconic daytime tourist destinations and the home of the famed Queen’s Head rock formation. While the park is typically closed at night, it is selectively opened for special events. Yehliu Night Tours – See the Queen’s Head Illuminated at Night is one such seasonal experience, transforming the landscape into a vibrant nighttime spectacle that blends nature, art, and sustainability.

The event incorporates energy-efficient LED lighting, multilingual guides, and accessible facilities to create a safe, eco-friendly, and visually striking experience. By extending visiting hours into the evening, it stimulates the local economy and enhances tourism value.

Rooted in the three pillars of sustainability, the project:
Economically promotes night tourism, boosts local revenue, and supports community livelihoods.

Environmentally protects the fragile rock formations by avoiding physical impact, using low-emission lighting, and monitoring light and noise pollution.
Culturally and socially, it centres on the “Queen’s Costume Show” and features community co-creation, artistic expression, and cultural markets that reflect strong local identity and participation.

Through this initiative, Yehliu’s natural heritage is reimagined under the night sky, offering a renewed perspective and setting a benchmark for sustainable night tourism in Taiwan.

User Experience

Centred around the theme “2025 Yehliu Night Tours – Queen’s Head Illumination”, the event combines landscape lighting art, soundscapes, and interactive missions to guide visitors through the natural wonders of Yehliu Geopark after dark. Each zone uses lighting and projection to highlight the textures and themes of unique rock formations, supported by multilingual audio guides, stamp-collecting challenges, and social media interaction. A well-planned visitor flow encourages a seamless transition from passive observation to active engagement, deepening connections with local nature and culture.

The event embraces three pillars of sustainability: economically, it boosts night tourism and supports local income; environmentally, it uses energy-efficient lighting, avoids structural damage, and monitors light and noise pollution; socially and culturally, it features the signature Queen’s Costume Show, community co-creation, and local markets that showcase regional identity—delivering a night festival rich in both cultural meaning and tourism value.

Sustainability

The event adopts energy-efficient LED lighting and low-power projection technology, with precise control tailored to each zone to reduce light pollution and energy waste. Modular and reusable lighting structures allow for easy dismantling and reuse after the event, minimising material consumption and environmental impact.

Sensitive ecological areas and wildlife habitats are deliberately avoided to ensure the immersive experience coexists in harmony with environmental protection and sustainable tourism.

The overall plan embraces three core aspects of sustainability: economically, it boosts night-time tourism, supports local industries, and increases resident income; environmentally, it safeguards geological formations, implements energy-saving designs, and monitors light and noise levels; socially and culturally, the event features the signature Queen’s Costume Show, integrates artistic co-creation and local identity, and highlights regional culture through curated markets—showcasing Yehliu’s vibrant cultural spirit.
