Project Overview

Dawn Rise LAB is a flagship space that brings together the quiet precision of Japanese craftsmanship and the free spirit of American street culture. Inspired by eaves, torii, and simple forms, the design uses gentle contrasts and natural flow to express a calm duality. It invites people to slow down, feel, and connect with the brand in an honest, lasting way.

Project Brief

The design blends Eastern calm with Western street culture. On the first floor, dark wood, torii gates, octagonal displays, and timber frames evoke a modern shrine, grounding the brand in ritual and identity. On the second floor, maple elements create a calm, immersive scene that highlights the brand’s creative and collectible nature. The result is a space that was well received by the client and allows visitors to feel the spirit of the brand through stillness, materials, and light.

Project Innovation/Need

Ken Kikuchi, founder of the brand, studied silverwork in the U.S. before returning to Japan to work in manufacturing for many years. He later started his own brand, blending the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship with the raw energy of American street culture. The result is a quiet mix of silver, streetwear, and art, simple in form, yet rich in meaning.

The space reflects this same duality. It is not just a store, but a place to share stories. The design brings together elements of faith, style, and art, using torii gates, timber frames, octagonal displays, and maple trees as quiet symbols. Layered like a journey, the space invites visitors to walk, pause, and connect with the brand’s story, where commerce and culture can grow gently together.

Design Challenge

The heart of this project lies in expressing the brand’s spirit through space—quietly connecting people to the values behind it. In the beginning, the team spent time learning the founder’s story and came to see the brand not just as fashion, but as a reflection of craftsmanship and cultural awareness.

Sustainability

This project is not only a place where trends and art come together but also reflects a commitment to sustainability in both understanding and practice.

The design uses dark wood as its foundation, extending the warm texture of nature. Durable materials and meticulous craftsmanship extend the lifecycle of the space, which helps minimise waste. Symbolic elements, such as torii gates, eaves, and maple trees, blend the Eastern philosophy of negative space with the free spirit of American street culture, conveying the values of respecting nature and honouring culture.

This space goes beyond mere product display; it embodies cultural narratives and brand beliefs, allowing consumers to connect with the brand's essence. It serves as a domain that triggers emotions and memories, enabling people to perceive the continuity of culture and nature in their daily lives. This design philosophy embodies sustainability by ensuring that both the space and the brand endure over time, resonating with people.
