The Moment of Eternity

Project Overview

This interior design project for a roughcast residence took a whole year from planning and design until completion. Instead of focusing on a unique style, we based it on "life" and centered the space on "family gathering." The overall space highlights visual permeability and smoothness by using a penetrating partition design and the design of the door as a wall and a wall as a door. This way, the visual extension of the functional furniture configuration will not affect the space and can create the beauty of spatial mobility.

Project Brief

The team strategically planned and arranged the bedrooms around the living room and dining room, which were positioned in the center of the space. This was done to boost the frequency of daily gatherings in the most significant areas for family get-togethers, thus emphasizing the true essence of a home.

To prioritize natural light in every room, the team placed the living and dining rooms in the center of the space, while the bedroom and study were located near the windows. To ensure that the living space in the center of the house received sufficient natural light, a glass partition was used to define the space between the living and dining rooms and the study.

Project Innovation/Need

The main focus of this project is the concept of "home" and its design. The design concept is based on the idea of "life movement" and "use demand". To achieve this, the team has planned the study, bedroom, studio, and other ancillary spaces outside the core spaces such as the guest room and dining room. This not only reflects the status of the "family", but also satisfies the family's various life needs. Moreover, the overall design is based on "shape and random function". Once the functional purpose is set, the team chooses the appropriate materials to match the function and adjust the space accordingly.

Design Challenge

The team took into account the owner's desire for naturalness, visual fluidity, and warmth when designing the space. They adjusted the proportions of materials and colors to meet these requirements. The lighting layout was also carefully planned, using an irregular approach to create a starry night sky effect. By doing so, the flat ceiling lights up the space, providing a bright and cozy environment that is full of life and interest for the owner.

The residential space was designed to fit the owner's imagination, which required a lot of communication and conceptual integration during the execution process. The owner was also involved in the planning process. The overall design was based on the owner's needs and preferences, and it utilized a large number of pure color veneer, titanium-plated, and pine-white wood veneer materials. The goal was to use 2-3 types of materials to define the spatial spindle color and create a natural, warm, and soft atmosphere in the home. This design emphasized the spatial sense of respiration and the sense of liveliness of the Scandinavian light music.

Sustainability

To make the living space easy to maintain, the team took two measures. Firstly, they used eco-friendly PP sheets that are easy to clean. These sheets have low formaldehyde and are labeled as green building materials. Moreover, they can be cleaned efficiently with just a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth, which saves the homeowner's time and cleaning costs. Secondly, the kitchen is divided into two zones. The exterior is a light cooking zone with a range hood, making cooking easier. The interior cooking zone is equipped with a sliding glass door as a partition to avoid the escape of grease and smoke. This allows the user to enjoy cooking time without any disturbances.
