Project Brief

Over 14.5million Australians use digital payments at least once a year, and with usage increasing year on year, EML Payments saw the potential to change the gifting game. EML Payments needed a way to keep up with the digitalisation of the financial sector and commissioned the development of instantly deliverable gift and Mastercard product.
EML's brief required;
• A Software Development Kit (SDK)
• A white label solution which to work across Apple, Google and Samsung Pay products
Following the brief, native iOS and Android applications were built enabling instant delivery of gift and Mastercard products directly into consumers digital wallets. The solution needed to be secure, the SDK easily adapted by EMLs clients, and most importantly, cards needed to be added to digital wallets.

Project Need

The creation of the EML Instant Gift application was the result of the increased use of digital wallets globally. Over two billion people use digital payment systems each year for purchases and in order to stay relevant in the quickly digitalising finance landscape EML Payments needed to embrace new technologies.

User Experience

The success of EML Instant Gift sat with the ability for EML clients to customise the white label application, and for customers to the easily activate and install their digital gift cards. Once a client has used the SDK to deliver their mobile application, users follow just a few simple steps and their Mastercard is available for use in their digital wallet.

The first use of the application, EML Rewards, allows the instant delivery of digital gift cards via text message. EML Rewards can be used by any consumer with access to a digital wallet using Google, Apple, or Samsung Pays. Once added to the user's digital wallet the card can be used at any terminal that accepts Mastercard and contactless payment.

Seventh Beam's SDK delivered EML clients with an easy plug-in module, and the white label solution enables organisations to deliver completely custom branded digital cards at a fraction of the cost of a custom physical card build and delivery.

Project Marketing

EML Instant Gift officially launched in November 2018 and has provided a solution like no other. Since launch, several EML clients have used the white label applications to rebrand to their requirements. EML first announced Instant Gift at the inaugural EML.Con in Sydney and through ASX press releases. Additionally, they have promoted the product through owned channels including the EML blog and official Facebook page.

In May 2019, through collaboration with Disney Australia, Marvel Stadium, and ESPN Australia, Instant Gift delivered a first-of-its kind instant reward promotion, showcasing the power of instant gifting combined with a consumer engagement program. Attendees of a football game at Marvel Stadium were invited to guess the attendance of the event. The closest 10 guesses won a $100 Marvel gift card, delivered instantly to their phones once the official attendance was announced. The winners could then instantly add their prepaid Marvel branded cards to their Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay digital wallet, and immediately spend it anywhere that accepts Mastercard.

This collaboration showcases the broad potential of EML Instant Gift. As more of EML's clients engage with the white label applications built by Seventh Beam we expect to see further innovative uses of Instant Gift.

Project Privacy

Security is always the highest of priority when building mobile applications but working with finances upped the need for secure systems. Seventh Beam needed to ensure user's privacy, security of their money, and stability of the applications themselves. Customer data is not stored within the application, and authentication through the SDK is coordinated with EML's individual clients. To ensure user authenticity, social media profiles are not an acceptable form of authentication for these cards. Card and accounts hosted by EML are identified using non-sequential and non-guessable identification numbers to prevent sending sensitive data across the network. As part of the development of this project independent security audits and penetration testing were completed to ensure the safety of EML client's data.
