Developed by an inspiring group of young Australians, online store Nspired is the country’s first furniture retailer using crowd sourcing – where the public picks what goes into production - as an innovative method of producing their designer collection.

Nspired Founder and CEO Cade Nguyen said the unique concept meant shoppers got the high-style, top ticket pieces they coveted, without the high-end boutique prices.

“Our mission is to sell unique furniture and really beautiful designs at affordable prices,” the 28-year-old entrepreneur said.

“We’re the first furniture retailer in Australia to offer original furniture from around the globe that is made to order and shipped directly to the customer. We have a team of unique designers who have created innovative and cool products, and the Nspired community gets to vote on their favourite designs.”

The most popular designs are then manufactured, cutting out the wholesaler, importer and retailer. By having the furniture made to order, the business has no inventory and doesn’t rely on high margins.

“As a result, there are massive savings for our customers – from 50 to 80 per cent off the cost of boutique style furniture. It’s for people who want really beautiful things but don’t necessarily want to pay those huge price-tags,” he said.

Nspired is launching with the wares of established, award-winning designers as well as impressive up-and-comers from around the globe, including Holland’s Floris Hovers, Adam Lau and Mike To from Hong Kong, the UK’s Kirsty Whyte and John Caswell and famed New-York based designer Martin Konrad Gloeckle.

Closer to home, they will also spruik the contemporary designs of Perth-based designer Kirsty Passmore and Sydney’s own Jacob Pemble.

“We scoured the globe to find the best designs and best designers for people to vote on, and we will transform these truly cool design ideas into reality, satisfying your desire for high style, at a low cost,” Melbourne-based Nguyen said.

With virtual offices in Sydney and Melbourne, Nguyen said the web-only business bucked the trend of furniture retailers in Australia.

“Although online shopping is booming in Australia, the furniture industry hasn’t yet embraced the online world - and the consumer has been the big loser,” he said.

“Australians have been ripped off for too long when buying furniture from bricks-and-mortar stores, lining the pockets of industry fat cats. The web-shunning Gerry Harvey and the like get away with selling over-priced generic furniture in shopping centres, and no online retailer has taken them on. It doesn’t have to cost $3,000 for a fantastic armchair, and we are here to show that, and shake up the furniture industry and revolutionise it the way companies like Zara has done for the clothing industry.

“Gone are the days of buying unoriginal replica furniture that every man and his dog—and most likely your neighbour owns.”
