NEXT Futures - extensions

29 October 2025 | Mark Bergin
2025 has been a year of new models, new standards, and new futures being thrust into everyday life. The status quo of the past 80 years — developed over a long, evolutionary process — has been disrupted by technology, economics, and government policy. As a result, solution-based designers and architects must now focus on imagining what’s next, rather than refining what’s been.

To reflect this dramatic shift, we’ve extended the BETTER FUTURE New York Design Awards 2025 by six weeks, to provide studios with the opportunity to articulate their vision of the next future — one that helps define life, community, and prosperity in this new context.

We’ve also introduced three additional NEXT Futures categories, reflecting the three essential phases of progress:

NEXT FUTURES - Visioning
NEXT FUTURES - Making
NEXT FUTURES - Operating

We look forward to seeing your proposals for the potential futures that will define our society as we move into STATUS NEXT.
