More than $10B of design projects has been recognized as winners are announced in the 2017 Sydney Design Awards.
“The growth in the demand for design services, and the resulting economic activity they represent, demonstrates the significant role that design and innovation plays across the whole economy” said Sydney Design Awards Chair Mark Bergin.
“We’re now seeing big corporates, as well as SMEs, turning to design to strategically drive growth and this is obvious in the 2017 collection of Sydney Design Award winners” Mr Bergin added.
Award winners were drawn from across of Sydney’s diverse design economy with awards received by big corporates through and boutique design studios alike.
Developers Lendlease, Mirvac and AMP Capital were recognised as the property and construction sector continues to commission and finance significant design projects.
Design studios including as Traffic, Luchetti Krelle and Cord & Berg were equally among the winners. In total 52 Gold and 91 Silver Awards were announced in diverse categories ranging from architecture and interior design to graphic and digital design.
The award trophies will be presented at a cocktail function held in conjunction with Schiavello in Surrey Hills on 29 August.
Now in its seventh year, the Sydney Design Awards has recognised hundreds of outstanding design projects, the quality of which continues to increase and challenge the status quo.
''Year on year we see a growing sophistication in the Sydney design marketplace. This year is no exception. The current crop of significant property developments and ensuing design projects shows that the demand for outstanding design is thriving,” Mr Bergin said.
The Sydney Design Awards is a BETTER FUTURE awards program, which also incorporates eight global design capitals.
Established in Australia, the BETTER FUTURE design awards also take place in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Hong Kong and Berlin, providing the design community critical links into global markets and an efficient method to gain recognition in export markets.
''We are extremely proud and excited about the success of the Sydney Design Awards” added Mr Bergin.
“We look forward to its continuing growth and further involvement from leading design organisations, studios and brands as we work together to strengthen the design economy and increase awareness about the importance and unquestionable benefits of good design.''
